Rrice

Rice-rinsing rice cooker

Designed by Jakub Szeremeta

Rice is often rinsed before cooking to remove excess starch. Currently, this task is performed manually by the user prior to cooking. The wide range of rice cooking appliances available on the market is largely limited to providing only the cooking function. The texture of cooked rice depends on whether it was rinsed before cooking, and on the correct water to rice ratio. Conventionally, rice must be measured manually by the user, and the correct amount of water must be added to achieve the desired texture.

The solution is a rice cooker that automates the process of washing rice and dispensing of the appropriate amount of water based on the quantity of rice placed in the cooking pot, ensuring the correct water to rice ratio is maintained for optimal texture.

The rice cooker rinses rice using a mechanised paddle and collects the starch-rich water in a removable, palm-sized reservoir. This water can be repurposed for watering plants, providing them with essential nutrients that would otherwise be discarded.

Rrice can cook up to 1.5 cups of rice at a time, making it suitable for individuals, couples or small families. It features two cooking programs specifically tailored for long-grain and short-grain rice.
