Tact

An extendable wardrobe

Designed by Bartosz Muszkat

The ever-increasing urban population density leads to less and less space being available for people to dwell comfortably. The aim of this project was to improve the experience of living in a small space through the introduction of novel and more optimal furniture design.

The proposed solution was based on the observation that significantly less space is needed to store clothes than to access them. This led to the development of Tact, a wardrobe that extends and compresses depending on the current needs of the user.

The rigid form of the traditional cuboid wardrobe has been dynamised by stripping it down to two faces connected by the telescopic mechanism. One of them is fixed to the wall, while the other becomes movable, allowing the user to easily and smoothly switch between “closed” mode, in which the space occupied by the stored clothes is minimised, and “open” mode, in which additional space is introduced to allow for the comfortable access.

The system can be customised with a set of additional storage compartments, as well as curtain for a dust protection, allowing the user to adapt Tact perfectly to their needs.
